Division 2 Mini-convention at Tea Gardens

Released 14/02/2012

The Kiwanis Australia Division 2 Convention was held in Tea Gardens 10-12 February 2012. Governor John Bromilow and his wife Jenny were the guests of honour from Geelong Victoria. John addressed Saturdays meeting congratulating clubs for the outstanding projects that have been completed this year. He also reconfirmed the need for membership growth and asked all Division club members to support the growth effort that is being made in Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney. East Maitland had 15 attendees; a record attendance for our club. It was great that newer members showed an interest in the wide Kiwanis world as visitors from Dandenong, Melbourne and Geelong clubs were also present.

The afternoon activities included air bowls which brought out a competitive spirit otherwise not seen in some, with our own Bob Funnel teaming with Governor John to take out the Sunshine Cup. Saturday’s fun-night was held at the Hawks Nest Surf Club with magnificent views of the ocean at sunset. The evenings theme was "Asian" and as you can by the photos most made an effort to look the part. The warm night and the alcohol mixed to bring out some interesting dance moves. East Maitland took out the music quiz and hosted “spin-the-bottle” based on word and numbers games.

We have been asked to assist the Sydney Club with their convention which runs from Thursday August 23 to Sunday August 26 based at the Penrith Panthers Club. It is important to register early to obtain the 5% discount. A room rate of $125 has been negotiated at The Chifley which is in the Panthers grounds. The theme for the Saturday fun night is BLUE so much thought and discussion needs to be had to ensure our reputation in winning the club prize remains intact.
